Thickness sets the weight, and it's the number stamped on every box. The plank is mostly high-density fiberboard (HDF), a compressed wood-fiber core that runs about 50 to 55 pounds per cubic foot. A thin photographic layer and a wear coat sit on top, but the core is what you feel when you lift a box.

Laminate vs other flooring
Laminate sits on the light end of the flooring range, heavier than carpet but well under hardwood or tile. That matters on a tear-out because the old floor and its replacement rarely weigh the same, and the disposal side is set by what's coming out.

What this means when you rent a dumpster
Laminate is a volume game, not a weight game. Snapped-apart planks are rigid and don't compress, so they pack loose in a container at roughly 250 to 350 pounds per cubic yard. You run out of room long before you get anywhere near a weight cap.
Put that in context. A 500-square-foot floor is about 700 pounds but takes up 2 to 3 cubic yards once it's broken up and tossed in loose. A 10-yard dumpster has the weight capacity for many times that load; you're paying for the space, not the tonnage. So size the container by how much floor area you're pulling, plus whatever underlayment, trim, and other debris rides along.
Here's the call most people miss: for one or two rooms, skip the dumpster. A single room of laminate is a few hundred pounds of planks that bag up fast and fit in a pickup bed, and many towns take it as curbside bulk pickup.
